Perspectives adds a new feature with Version 1.6. In Version 1.5, Perspectives added the ability to track the next sunrise and sunset. Version 1.6 adds the ability to track the current Moon position and the position for the next 24 hours in 1 hour increments.
NOTE: The calculations for calculating the position of the moon and determining the position on the screen are much more intensive than for the Sun. Because Perspectives can map the position anywhere on the sky, some of the simplifications used for showing the Sun’s position simply don’t work. Likewise, on a mobile device, the amount of work you perform tracks directly to the amount of battery you use and, as a result, displaying the position of the Moon currently takes more power than we would like.
To display the Moon, a longitudinal swipe action is performed. Just like the Sun is displayed using the short access of the screen, the Moon is displayed using the long access:
The display is simple. It plots the moons position showing the current phase (29 different images represented) from new Moon to full Moon back to new Moon. It shows the current position with a pulsating and rotating green target with a label of “Now”. A line connects the next 23 hours of the moon with a “+” number of hours. This will work at any pitch of the phone from -80 to 80 degrees. Another Swipe (either left/right or up/down) will return you back to the main control screen.
A couple more views of this screen are:
An example of plotting the Moon set. A view showing a “through the Earth” look.
